The 5th Annual 5 Shorts Project Film Premiere, the project’s signature fundraising event, will be held at Venice Island, 7 Lock St. Philadelphia, PA, on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. Those in attendance will enjoy an evening of short films featuring local actors, directors, crew, and producers from the tri-state area. All participants had little to no experience in filmmaking before joining the project. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers.

By donating, you can help the 5 Shorts Project provide rigorous video production hands-on training and workshops for our participants and help to fund the array additional programs and services that will help us to develop a youth program and theatre arts program. The Project is committed to providing opportunities for Philadelphia citizens to share their stories via the creative medium of film. We could not do it without you.

Shameka S.L. Sawyer is an African-American woman film-maker and the founder/creative director of the 5 Shorts Project. Since 2014, the 5 Shorts Project has been at the forefront of assisting with the creation of short films that represent diverse stories from diverse communities. Each year, the project supports aspiring filmmakers with learning the filmmaking process from development to distribution. Participating filmmakers are rewarded with a premiere screening of their short films and their films air on local television via PhillyCAM. The films produced via the 5 Short Project represent the voices of independent filmmakers from Philadelphia, Chester, and New Jersey. Since the creation of the project, 5 Shorts has produced 30 short films and has given opportunities for over 200 local aspiring actors and film crew members to gain industry credit.
